Nepal Vegetable Ghee and Oil Manufacturers Association pledges Rs 10.1m to Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund

KATHMANDU: Nepal Vegetable Ghee and Oil Manufacturers Association, together with its member industries, has pledged Rs 10.1 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to support victims of severe flooding across the country.

The contribution follows catastrophic flash flooding on August 26, which originated from Tibet, China, and caused extensive loss of life and damage across settlements in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan and Nawalpur districts. Large numbers of people have died, gone missing or been injured, while private property and public infrastructure have suffered irreparable harm.

The association urged the government to take immediate action to provide relief, medical treatment and essential support to affected families. It also stressed the need for long-term measures, particularly the rehabilitation of affected areas and the reconstruction of infrastructure, and said that active initiatives, timely decisions and support from relevant agencies would bring vital relief to survivors.

The organisation said, "Remaining responsible and accountable toward citizens, society, and the nation, the Nepal Vegetable Ghee and Oil Manufacturers Association and its member industries have decided to contribute Rs 10.1 million as assistance to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund, reflecting national unity, social collaboration, and humanitarian spirit during such a sensitive situation."

The association added that it will continue to engage in collaborative social initiatives in the coming days and that the rehabilitation of affected citizens and regions, together with infrastructure reconstruction, can only progress swiftly with the continued sensitivity and support of the Government of Nepal and all concerned stakeholders.
